NANAIMO – A Snuneymuxw First Nation (SFN) owned and operated service station will welcome its first customers Friday afternoon.
The four pump gas station and convenience store will employ five workers to start, according to Petroglyph Development Corporation CEO Ian Simpson.
The SFN venture on MacMillan Rd. near Duke Point Hwy. will be open daily 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
SFN Chief Mike Wyse previously told the band’s website the business would be a major boost for their small community south of Nanaimo.
“Every other community has their own gas station that prvides service to their people. This is going to be Snuneymuxw’s gas bar,” Wyse stated.
A grand opening ceremony for the business venture is slated for Friday, Nov 5 at 12 p.m.
The Snuneymuxw gas bar near the Duke Point ferry terminal is one of four land reserves comprising of SFN territory.
